Swimming!

Sadly our swimming lessons for 2017 have now come to an end. We all had such a great time at the pools and learned a lot. We feel that swimming is such an invaluable skill to have as we all live on an island. Check out the photos of what our groups were working on!

Group 1 was learning to be more comfortable in the water - putting our heads under, blowing bubbles and floating on our fronts and backs.

Group 2 was working on swimming freestyle using flutter boards, and then progressing to arms only.

Group 3 was working on practicing our different swimming styles and swimming over, under or through underwater obstacles like hoops.

Maui and the sun

Room 20 read the story of Maui and the sun. We then worked in groups to retell the story as a short dance sequence; first with a buddy and then with a group. When working together we had to consider the dance elements we had brainstormed; such as movement, timing, space, size, height, tempo and locomotion.

Our dances have not yet been set to music but check out our work so far from these brave volunteers!

Kia ora and welcome

Room 20 has had a great start to 2017! We have been hard at work getting settled into our new Yr. 5 classroom routines and learning. We have particularly been enjoying our swimming lessons! Check out some pictures from today's problem solving session in maths; we had to work in pairs to follow number patterns and chart our evidence.

Our New Rain Jackets

This term KidsCan gave us all new rain jackets. We loved them so much we just had to wear them while we worked. Thanks, KidsCan!

Room 20s Assembly

In week eight, Room 20 led the school assembly. We had a great time sharing a story and performing our dance item. At first some of us were a bit nervous but we quickly got into it. Here are a few photos of our assembly.
